Hey, at least she's cooking for you guys. But if  you have to ingest antacids by the truckload, you may start offering to help out with dinner.

London Eye

A recent but already very popular tourist attraction is the London Eye, a giant observation wheel located in the Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank. The 135 meter (443ft) tall structure was built as part of London's millennium celebrations.

A Landmark for the new Millennium

The structure was designed by the architectural team of David Marks and Julia Barfield, husband and wife.
They submitted their idea for a large observation wheel as part of a competition to design a landmark for the new millennium.

None of the entrants won the competition, but the couple pressed on and eventually got the backing of British Airways, who sponsored the project.

Rhine River Cruise

Cruises of the famed Rhine River generally run from as far north as Amsterdam to the south end at Basel, Switzerland. Germany falls in what many consider the most scenic part of the river -- the Middle Rhine Region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that boasts hillside castles and wineries. Rhine River cruises usually run from May through fall; there are also special Christmas Market cruises of the region in December. Numerous river cruise lines sail Rhine itineraries that include up to five countries along the river.

Cologne is regularly affected by flooding from the Rhine and is considered the most flood-prone European city. A city agency (Stadtentwässerungsbetriebe Köln, "Cologne Urban Drainage Operations") manages an extensive flood control system which includes both permanent and mobile flood walls, protection from rising waters for buildings close to the river banks, monitoring and forecasting systems, pumping stations and programs to create or protect floodplains and river embankments. The system was redesigned after a 1993 flood which resulted in heavy damages.

German Fun Facts about food and drink:
You would have to try one kind of German bread per day for almost a whole year in order to be able to taste them all! There are over 300 different kinds of bread in Germany.

Germans really do love beer; they rank second in world-wide beer consumption per person after Ireland. Bier is officially considered a food in Bayern, where the normal size beer glass, the Mass is 1 liter.


Germany is the cheapest place in Europe to buy beer, but also the most difficult in which to make a choice - there are over 1,500 different brands and types of beer in this country! We recommend the dark beers - the "Dunklesbier". Rich and creamy, it is the perfect cool drink after a walk or on a sunny terrasse with friends.

Germans like beer so much that they even have an expression with it: Das ist nicht mein Bier, meaning "That is none of my business!"
