End of the world?

As the supposed Mayan Apocalypse nears we can peer back into the past to find other failed end of the world predictions. Those interested in the Mayan Apocalypse are turning to the internet in droves to find out more information. If you happen to google “Apocalypse past predictions” you’ll find that hundreds of predictions have failed to come true even within our lifetimes.

According to Space.com the source of all the apocalyptic anxiety is the Mayan Long Calendar, whose bak’tun, a 144,000-day cycle milestone, marks the end of a cycle of creation. Doomsdayers have seized on this coincidence and declared the world must end, gripping the American imagination with even the Chinese being affected. Experts in Mayan history disagree, saying the Mayans likely would have celebrated the event and rolled the calendar over to a new bak’tun. NASA isn’t expecting any giant asteroids or solar storms, either.

Think positive

"Before falling asleep, think positive thoughts instead of recapping all of the things that went wrong during the day. The subconscious mind will play on the last thoughts you have before going to sleep. Make it count!" - Rivers ext. 5273

We need to clear our mind of all unhappy thoughts before we go to sleep as our subconscious mind will play on them. So think of something that you cherish before you go to sleep every night..

Stay positive and happy!

Legend of the Moon cake festival

Legend

The story of Chang E is the most widely accepted tale regarding the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is said that in ancient times, ten suns existed and the extreme heat made people's lives very difficult. It was the hero Hou Yi who, owing to his great strength, shot down the nine of the ten suns. On hearing of this amazing feat and the hero who performed it, people came from far and wide to learn from him. Peng Meng was among these people. Later, Hou Yi married a beautiful and kind woman named Chang E and lived a happy life.

One day, Hou Yi came upon Wangmu (the queen of heaven) on the way to meet his old friend. Wangmu presented him an elixir which, if drunk, would cause him to ascend immediately to heaven and become an immortal. Instead of drinking the potion himself, Hou Yi took it home and presented it to Chang E to keep. Unfortunately, Peng Meng secretly saw Hou Yi give the potion to his wife and three days later, while Hou Yi was out hunting, Peng Meng rushed into the backyard and demanded that Chang E hand over the elixir. Knowing that she could not win, she took out the elixir and swallowed it immediately. The moment she drank it, she flew out of the window and up into the sky. Chang E's great love for her husband drew her towards the Moon, which is the nearest heavenly body to the earth.

On realising what happened to his wife, Hou Yi was so grief stricken that he shouted Chang E' s name to the sky. He was amazed to see a figure which looked just like his wife appeared in the Moon. He took the food liked by Chang E to an altar and offered it as a sacrifice for her. Hou Yi's neighbours also burned incense and prepared food to express their good wishes to the kind Chang E. This became a custom later every year

Courtesy in commenting

I realised that some people just can't comment nicely. They would love to be rude and unfriendly.

It happened to me once whereby a commenter just wrote 'zzzzzz' on the comment box. At first, I just ignored it and just deleted it. Then it happened again and again. Becoming impatient, I wrote on my facebook wall.

If you don't like my posts, please do not zzzz on it.

I was being kind and I didn't even disclose the identity of the person.

This person happened to be a blogger too who was also a facebook friend.

When that person saw my message on the wall, immediately I was unfriended. This showed that person was guilty but didn't come forward to apologize.

I could only say good riddance and from that day onwards, I didn't visit that person's blog anymore.

Cats' Sense

Cats have poor light vision and will often lose track of an object if it is not moving, however the reflectors in their eyes allow the to see very well in low light. They can see most colors, but have trouble with red and green, and their peripheral vision is huge.

Cats can hear very soft sounds and very high pitched sounds that humans can't, though they sometimes miss the really low sounds.

Cats can't taste sweetness, only salty, sour and bitter.

Cats have amazing smell to help with their hunting, and a little organ under their lip that lets them pick up the scents of other cats, carrying all sorts of information about them.

Cats don't have any special sense of touch, except for their whiskers, which have delicate nerve endings to help them feel vibrations, wind, hot, and cold.

It's not proven, but supposedly cats have other senses, like feeling the emotions of other living things, or knowing there's going to be a storm or an earthquake.

Hungary

Hungary is a landlocked state with many neighbours – Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria. It is mostly flat, with low mountains in the north. Lake Balaton, a popular tourist centre, is the largest lake in central Europe.

The ancestors of ethnic Hungarians were the Magyar tribes, who moved into the Carpathian Basin in 896. Hungary became a Christian kingdom under St Stephen in the year 1000. The Hungarian language is unlike any of the country’s neighbouring languages and is only distantly related to Finnish and Estonian.

The capital city, Budapest, was originally was two separate cities: Buda and Pest. It straddles the River Danube, is rich in history and culture and famed for its curative springs. Hungary has a single-chamber parliament or national assembly whose 386 members are elected by voters every four years.

Hungary has some limited natural resources (bauxite, coal, and natural gas), as well as fertile soils and arable land. Hungarian wines are enjoyed throughout Europe. The country‘s main manufactured exports include electric and electronic equipment, machinery, foodstuffs and chemicals.

Hungary is a highly musical country whose traditional folk music inspired such great national composers as Liszt, Bartók and Kodály. Other famous Hungarians include Albert Albert Szent-Györgyi, who discovered the existence of Vitamin C, writer and Nobel Prizewinner Imre Kertész and Oscar-winning film director István Szabó.

Lake Bled

The lake is 2,120 m (6,960 ft) long and 1,380 m (4,530 ft) wide, with a maximum depth of 30.6 m (100 ft). The lake is situated in a picturesque environment, surrounded by mountains and forests. The medieval-era Bled Castle stands above the lake on the north shore. The lake surrounds Bled Island (Sln. Blejski otok), the only natural island in Slovenia. The island has several buildings, the main one being the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary (Slovenian: Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja), built in the 15th century, where weddings are held regularly. The church has a 52 m (171 ft) tower and there is a stairway with 99 steps leading up to the building. Traditionally it is considered good luck for the groom to carry his bride up the 99 steps on the day of their wedding before ringing the bell and making a wish inside the church.
The lake is also well known among rowers because it has very good conditions for the sport. It hosted the World Rowing Championships in 1966, 1979, 1989 and 2011.
The lake is 35 km (22 mi) from the Ljubljana International Airport and 55 km (34 mi) from the capital city Ljubljana.

To love you more

Take me back in the arms I love
Need me like you did before
Touch me once again
And remember when
There was no one that you wanted more

Don't go you know you will break my heart
She won't love you like I will
I'm the one who'll stay
When she walks away
And you know I'll be standing here still

I'll be waiting for you
Here inside my heart
I'm the one who wants to love you more
You will see I can give you
Everything you need
Let me be the one to love you more

See me as if you never knew
Hold me so you can't let go
Just believe in me
I will make you see
All the things that your heart needs to know

I'll be waiting for you
Here inside my heart
I'm the one who wants to love you more
You will see I can give you
Everything you need
Let me be the one to love you more

And some way all the love that we had can be saved
Whatever it takes we'll find a way

I'll be waiting for you
Here inside my heart
I'm the one who wants to love you more
You will see I can give you
Everything you need
Let me be the one to love you more

It is a little blur but you surely could read it. It's written 'Slide'.

I thought it should be 'slice'!
